A scorching summer doesn’t deter the blooms of crepe myrtle, a “go-to” tree for southern gardeners. There are three varieties of crepe (crape) myrtle in my garden, but ‘White Chocolate’ is my favorite for mixing with perennials.
I stumbled upon this unusual variety in 2006. This year, the blooms are fabulous and have been going strong for a month.
Today’s market was boosted by gains in DFCC and LOLC. DFCC closed at Rs 325.60, up 29.60 while LOLC cosed 71.30 higher at Rs 784.70. The benchmark Colombo All Share Index (ASI) cosed 18.88 points higher at 5582.87. Milanka index closed at 5876.38, up 15.73 points. Today’s total equity turnover amounted to 1.90 billion rupees.
Rarely traded J.L.Morison Sons and Jones (Ceylon) Plc was up by 135.20 to close at Rs 1561.70 while another illiquid stock E B Creasy and Co Plc gained seventy rupees to end the day at Rs 970.00. Ceylon Brewery Plc the country’s largest bear producer was up by twenty seven rupees to close at Rs 302.00 but on mere 100 shares. Ceylinco Insurance plc closed 17.60 higher at Rs 323.10.
Environmental Resources Investments Plc (GREG) lost 7.60 to close at Rs 95.80 while Ceylon Leather Products Plc closed at Rs 233.60, down 22.90. Aitken Spence Plc was down by 76.60 to close at Rs 2629.40. Dialog lost 10 cents to close at Rs 10.00.

Interior designers are like movie stars. When they are hot you see them everywhere. Then a few years later they just disappear.
Thom Felicia is definitely hot now. He has a wide range of licensed products as we’ve mentioned in previous post–ranging from Kravet fabrics to furniture for Vanguard and now rugs for Safavieh.
His rug collection is actually very affordable. Very young and hip too. A 6 x 9 rug is about $600. Very reasonable don’t you think?

I wanted to let you know that I’m working on a startup.
It’s focused on an area that I’m passionate about, information management. We think we can do something that will make a big improvement in the lives of people on the go who are overwhelmed by the flow of information through their lives, especially in business. I’m teamed up with two excellent software engineers I knew from Apple. Between us, we have a huge base of experience in both big tech companies and startups, and I feel very excited about what we’re developing.
The company is in the early stages. We’ve already started development, and the first version of the product is about halfway done. We’re raising a bit of angel funding to bring the product to market. Between the startup work and some consulting I’m still doing to cover expenses, there isn’t much time available for writing on the weblog. There are a lot of things I want to write about, and I’ll try to do some posts as time permits.
